The Chinese Banking Association of Hong Kong held the third seminar of the “Financial Opportunities and Challenges” lecture series in the morning of October 27. Mr. Chiah Kok Hoe, Executive Director, Advisory Services at Octagon Advisors and Mr. Li Chan Wing, Senior TV hosts and Media specialist, shared their views on Liquidity Risk Management, Stress Tests and techniques in dealing with the media.
Mr. Ronick Chan, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Chinese Banking Association of Hong Kong and a member of the Legislative Council, addressed the event. Mr. Kevin Chan, Executive Vice President of the Association was the MC of the Seminar. About 100 guests from member organizations and local banks attended the event.
Mr. Ronick Chan said that the Chinese Banking Association of Hong Kong has successfully held two seminars of the “Financial Opportunities and Challenges” lecture series. A number of professionals from finance, IT and the media have shared their expertise to our members through this platform. Mr Chan added that operating environment of banks is getting more difficult, with the implementation of Basel III and tougher requirements on stress tests. How to strike a balance between fulfilling tougher regulatory requirement and maintaining overall profitability is key in every bankers mind. Besides, in the era of ‘Everyone is the Media’, banks need to pay special attentions and get well prepared for managing reputational risks. Understanding how to maintain mutual relationship with the Media is vitally important, remarked Mr Chan.
